Natalia Kills/Perfectionist (2011)

This is what I consider to be Pop perfection. The major label debut from british sensation Natalia Kills. Originally a child actor, Natalia has been around the scene for a few years and has bounced around various projects (including a stint as a female rapper ala Lady Sovereign) until she finally caught everybody's attention. Perfectionist is a Dark Electro tinged slice of Pop goodness. Hard hitting synths, drums and bass combine together with Natalia's silky voice, which carries quite a vocabulary. Kills is signed to the same label that produced Lady GaGa, and as such you can hear some similarities in style, including a hint of the same cadence and the unavoidable use of some of the same producers. What makes her stand out though is her unique voice. Her actual voice is smooth, silky and sweet. Her lyrics involve words or phrases that you wouldn't expect to find in a pop song. In addition to being different, it can also be eloquent. She's a breathe of fresh air in the ever-growing sea of female pop sensations. A little quirk I find enjoyable is her tendency to throw in 3-4 word chants throughout a bunch of her songs, creating a secondary hook almost. For example, the song Break You Hard has an underlying chant of "Lipstick, lies, tears, tragedy." My favorite songs on the album are Wonderland, Break You Hard, Zombie, Mirrors, and Nothing Lasts Forever.
